It is the only in Lucania whose value has been recognized by the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture with access to the FUS Culture Fund. Besides, the Festival Duni has meanwhile made rediscover the great Materan musician of ‘700 to whom is entitled: Egidio Romualdo Duni, the father of the Opéra Comique, known throughout Europe but almost unknown in Matera, although the Conservatory and a theatre have his name. And then in all these years the Festival mixed perfectly the beauty of music with the charm of some of the most fascinating places of the city: the Monacelle or Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, Palazzo Lanfranchi or Cava del Sole, in fact, has been gorgeous locations for the performances of  Noah, Luis Bacalov, Burt Bacarach, Goran Bregovic, Vinicio Capossela and many others.

A great heritage to be exploited to the fullest. That’s the mood the pushed Saverio Vizziello, art director of the Festival, to work throughout  these years preparing every summer the interesting program of the Festival, by now come to the sixteenth edition. The first event in the series last Tuesday, July 7 at Piazza. S.Francesco d’Assisi with music by Tchaikovsky, and Dvorak, performed on piano by Andrei Gavrilov accompanied by the Orchestra of Magna Grecia.

Scheduled another thirteen concerts until August 10, with the usual formula that provides the most disparate musical genres, with performances in the courtyard of the seventeenth-century ex-hospital of San Rocco: from the pop songs of Simone Cristicchi to jazz with Mario Rosini and Mala Waldron from rock of Pink Floyd in symphonic version with DNA Pink Floyd Tribute Band and Orchestra ICO Magna Grecia to opera with “Rigoletto” and “The Barber of Seville”; and then operetta with the voices of Filomena Fittipaldi and Yoosang Yoon and the eleventh edition of Petra Matrix, review of polyphonic singing with three choirs.

On 1 August at the park of Tramontano castle the event of greater popular appeal, the concert of Fiorella Mannoia, famous Italian singer celebrating 40 years of career. So it will be a great summer of music in Matera, an event that will brighten the evenings of the many tourists in the city and a further reason for all those who intend to visit it.
